Kingwood’s first library opened in 1941. Years later, the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department donated land to the City of Kingwood so could have a new library constructed. This new library, which is still in operation today, first opened to the public on September 3, 1968.

Today, the Kingwood Public Library offers a wide array of events and educational services. Upon merging into the state’s largest inter-library lending consortium in 2020, the Kingwood Public Library become able to offer its patrons the opportunity to borrow books from 109 other libraries.
